THE ORIGINAL EBAY AD

HAUNTED PAINTING ----- WARNING AND DISCLAIMER

DESCRIPTION

WHEN WE RECEIVED THIS PAINTING, WE THOUGHT IT WAS REALLY GOOD ART. A " PICKER " HAD FOUND IT ABANDONNED BEHIND AN OLD BREWERY. AT HTE TIME WE WONDERED A LITLLE WHY A SEEMINGLY PERFECTLY FINE PAINTING WOULD BE DISCARDED LIKE THAT. ( TODAY WE DON'T !!! ) ONE MORNING OUR 4 AND 1/2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER CLAIMED, THAT THE CHILDREN IN THE PICTURE WERE FIGHTING, AND COMING INTO THE ROOM DURING THE NIGHT. NOW, I DON'T BELIEVE IN UFOS OR ELVIS BEING ALIVE, BUT MY HUSBAND WAS ALARMED. TO MY AMUSEMENT HE SET UP A MOTION TRIGGERED CAMREA FOR THE NIGHTS. AFTER THREE NIGHTS THERE WERE PICTURES.THE LAST TWO PICTURES SHOWN ARE FROM THAT 'STAKEOUT'. AFTER SEEING THE BOY SEEMINGLY EXITING THE PAINTING UNDER THREAT, WE DECIDED, THE PAINTING HAS TO GO.PLEASE JUDGE FOR YOURSELF. --- BEFORE YOU DO, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWIND WARNING AND DISCLAIMER. ----WARNING: DO NOT BID ON THIS PAINTING IF YOU ARE SUCCEPTIBLE TO STRESS RELATED DISEASE, FAINT OF HEART OR ARE UNFAMILIAR WITH SUPERNATURAL EVENTS. BY BIDDING ON THIS PAINTING, YOU AGREE TO RELEASE THE OWNERS OF ALL LIABILITY IN RELATION TO THE SALE OR ANY EVENTS HAPPENING AFTER THE SALE, THAT MIGHT BE CONTRIBUTED TO THIS PAINTING. THIS PAINTING MAY OR MAY NOT POSESS SUPERNATURAL POWERS, THAT COULD IMPACT OR CHANGE YOUR LIFE. HOWEVER, BY BIDDING YOU AGREE TO EXCLUSIVELY BID ON THE VALUE OF THE ARTWORK, WITH DISREGARD TO THE LAST TWO PHOTOS FEATURED IN THIS AUCTION, AND HOLD THE OWNERS HARMLESS IN REGARD TO THEM AND THEIR IMPACT, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED.------------ NOW THAT WE GOT THIS OUT OF THE WAY, ONE QUESTION TO YOU EBAYERS. WE WANT OUR HOUSE TO BE BLESSED AFTER THE PAINTING IS GONE, DOES ANYBODY KNOW, WHO IS QUALIFIED TO DO THAT?

THE SELLERS CONTINUE:

THE SIZE OF THE PAINTING IS 24 BY 36 INCHES, SO IT IS RATHER LARGE. AS I HAVE HAD SEVERAL QUESTIONS, HERE THE FOLLOWING ANSWERS. THERE WAS NO ODOR LEFT BEHIND IN THE ROOM. THERE WERE NO VOICES, OR THE SMELL OF GUNPOWDER, NO FOODPRINTS OR STRANGE FLUIDS ON THE WALL. TO DETER QUESTIONS IN THIS DIRECTION, THERE ARE NO GHOSTS IN THIS WORLD , NO SUPERNATURAL POWERS, THIS IS JUST A PAINTING, AND MOST THESE THINGS HAVE AN EXPLANATION, IN THIS CASE PROBABLY A FLUKE LIGHT EFFECT. I ENCOURAGE YOU TO BID ON THE ARTWORK, AND CONSIDER THE LAST TWO PHOTOGRAPHS AS PURE ENTERTAINMENT, AND PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THEM INTO CONSIDERATION, WHEN BIDDING. AS WE THINK IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO BLESS ANY HOUSE, WE STILL WELCOME INPUT INTO THAT PROCEDURE.

AND FINAL WORDS FROM THE SELLER:

This auction is nearing the end. I want to thank the more than 13000 people that took the time to look at this image on ebay. I appreciate the more than 30 suggestions, that I received regarding blessing the house, exorcising and cleansing. 7 emails reported strange or irregular events taking place, when viewing this image. And I will relay two suggestions made by the senders. First not to use this image as the background on the screen, and second not to display this image around juveniles or children. Last not least, thanks for apreciating the art as well.

INTERVIEW WITH HAUNTED PAINTING OWNER

SURFING THE APOCALYPSE  followed up on this story in an email interview with the new owner of the painting. For now, the person wishes to be known only as "The Lucky Bidder." Here is the interview. Surfing the Apocalypse is denoted as:  SURFING, "The Lucky Bidder," is denoted as: L.B.

SURFING: What attracted you to the "Haunted Painting?" Were you interested in the piece more for it's artistic value or for the legend that went with it?

L.B.:  Visually, it seemed like a good composition, the artist displayed a certain professional handling of the medium, and the subject matter was compelling. The " legend " seemed like a good marketing ploy, but I was buying it to sell.

SURFING: How long have you had the painting?

L.B.:   Since March 7.

SURFING: Has anything "unusual" happened with the painting? If so, describe.

L.B.:   I wish I could report a bizarre happening or mind possession type of thing, but the unusual things started happening with the first email and counting. Prayers and quotes from the scriptures from a man of faith. Advice as how to cleanse my residence of this evil thing from a Native American Shaman in Mississippi. Reports of people being repulsed, made physically ill, or suffering from a black out/mind control experiences. I've been informed that over 34,000 people on Ebay alone have viewed this item. People want to know how can I live with this sort of " thing ", or want to buy a life size reproduction. If anything, this is the real story. I had never received an email before that wasn't from some on-line pornsite. And the only apparent reason I get these is because I fit the profile.

SURFING:  Have you been able to find out anything about the history of the painting?

L.B.:   I was hoping from the detail image on ebay of the boys face, that given the crazing of the pigment, the painting would date from the 1920's or 30's. That generally would make an economic difference. It probably was completed in 1965-75. It is titled, " The Hands Resist Him ". Which I think is a very interesting name. It is signed, but I'm not releasing that information yet. A good example of surrealism from that period. Just call me a lucky bidder on Ebay.

SURFING: You have received emails that people have been "repulsed", made "physically ill" and "suffered from blackout/mind control experiences" just by viewing pictures of the painting???

L.B.:   Yes.

SURFING:  According to the reports of the email that you have been receiving you have had offers to "cleanse your residence" as well as scriptures and prayers. Do you think these are coming from people who experienced something from the actual photos of the painting or from the description that was posted for the sale?

L.B.:  I think more power of suggestion, but who knows. What I experienced seems to be the norm, but there are many different people out there.

SURFING: How many "concerned" emails have you received? (estimate)

L.B.:   3 very different responses, 10 more that were frightened or repulsed. The seller has had 15 eventful emails along with 40 offering to cleanse her home. I also have been contacted by the Ghost Hunters of Georgia, and a graduate student in parapsychology from J.F.K. University.

SURFING: When you say "3 very different responses," What do you mean?

L.B.:   An exorcist type of voice, along with a blast of hot air, like standing in front of an oven door. Two friends crying after this experience and praying until a minute had passed and everything went back to normal.
A new Epson printer that ate and mutilated page after page when the user tried to download images of this oil.
The Native American who became so ill he had to cleanse his house by burning white sage. He warned me not to put this item around small children, and that there is great evil contained here.

SURFING: What do you plan to do with the painting?

L.B.:   I plan to sell it, or perhaps first investigate selling high quality limited edition prints of it. I have several offers from people to buy the original or good reproductions.

SURFING: After this experience will you be more or less inclined to purchase such an item over the internet?

L.B.:   I would absolutely be interested in purchasing any item that I found desirable or marketable. No matter what the reaction of people viewing this image. It is achieving a response and continuing a dialogue concerning art, and all the potential effects it can have. I was thinking today that after 24 years in the gallery business, I am still passionate about seeing anything of merit that has ever been created. This image is different though, it is not reaching the people as most famous or infamous images have. Scholars and museums over the years along with galleries , have educated us in what is considered to be the best and first of its kind. This image is reaching people all somewhat simultaneously, and allowing them to be the judge of its merits. The truth is, it probably would never make it into a museum collection or exhibition, even though it does have this captive edge.

So there you have it! Were the reports of repulsion, black outs, mind control and physical illness a result of viewing the photos? Were they prompted by the description of the painting? Is this an example of the power of suggestion and internet hysteria? Does the painting have a "sinister" side that the new owner is not yet aware of? A side that only the more "sensitive" can see? Remember it was first reported by the 4 1/2 year old daughter of the seller. What is it that they say about "The Eyes of a Child?"

Have you had any unusual reactions from viewing these photos? If so, be sure to let us know! We will forward any relevant responses to the new owner, "The Lucky Bidder." Email us at: contact@surfingtheapocalypse.com
